Luberon Natural Regional Park

Taking your time > Nature / Ecotourism > Luberon Natural Regional Park

The rounded silhouette of the Luberon stretches from the Alps to the Vaucluse plain, and watches over Provence.

The gentle climate, harmonious landscapes and the wealth of its plant species make it a country apart. Here each wall reveals man’s attachment to this land.

In Neolithic times, men already lived under the white rocks of the Luberon. Warriors, merchants and travellers then travelled down the Domitian Way, the oldest route in France, which went across the region.

And the farmers have always kept a varied agriculture: orchards, cereals and sheep.

Biosphere reserve Luberon-Lure

In 1997, the Luberon Regional Nature Park, created in 1977, was integrated into the network of Biosphere Reserves.

Relations have developed between the actors of this territory and those on the northeast side of the southern slope of the Montagne de Lure (1,826 m), a continuous area with many common characteristics and in particular a strong biological and cultural interest.

The Luberon Biosphere Reserve, it became clear that collaboration could be expanded and diversified within the framework of an expanded Biosphere Reserve, an approach that was approved by UNESCO in June 2010.
