The Refuge de Chambeyron is located on the shores of Lac Premier, at the foot of Brec de Chambeyron, whose highest point measures 3,389 m above sea level. This (CAF) refuge, set in unspoilt, rocky surroundings, is the perfect place to switch off.
You can come here to do ‘nothing’ except look, listen, smell… enjoy the beauty of the place and the good food provided by the caretaker.
You’ll come across a lot of hikers, as there are plenty of routes around the refuge.
The only high-altitude refuge in the area, the Chambeyron refuge is a great starting point for day trips or a stop-off point for itinerant hikes in Ubaye, or between Italy, Queyras and Mercantour.
Mountaineers will want to head for the Brec de Chambeyron or the Aiguilles de Chambeyron.
For mountain bikers, Haute-Ubaye is a superb spot! Some will prefer fishing in the mountain lakes.
The refuge is guarded from April to September in a high mountain atmosphere. There are no showers here, the lakes are nearby and photovoltaic panels provide electricity for the refuge… disconnection is guaranteed!
During the busy season, we offer dinner, breakfast and a snack service during the day. Everything is cooked using local and/or organic produce.
During the off-season, part of the refuge remains open (a dormitory with blankets, a dining room with a wood-burning stove, dry toilets). You must be completely self-sufficient for meals (no gas).
