Visite commentée de la Maison du Mulet

Visite commentée de la Maison du Mulet

Halfway between a museum and an educational farm, La Maison du Mulet traces the history of this animal born in the Pays de Seyne.

Mules, donkeys and mares graze on the site, with a mini-farm, playground, exhibitions and events on Thursdays in July and August.

Take advantage of the guided tour to find out more about the mules’ secrets. On the program: discovery of the mini-farm, explanations of the exhibits and presentation of the large animals.

A permanent exhibition illustrates the importance of mule-breeding, mule trading and their contribution to the prosperity of the Pays de Seyne up to the middle of the 20th century. A short film features the testimonies of local breeders who played a part in the end of this epic story.

The temporary exhibition “Les animaux, la nuit” (“Animals at night”) allows visitors to discover, by torchlight, the animals that come out at night in our region. In an original setting, we reveal some of the peculiarities of these discreet, noisy or surprising neighbors who lead their lives when we’re asleep.

Throughout the summer, immersion activities take place on Thursdays in July and August (demonstrations, horse-drawn carriage rides…). Consult our website or the Tourist Office program.

This charming museum offers a fun and original way to discover mules and their importance in the history of the Pays de Seyne, through its various facilities, exhibitions and activities. Children can discover the animals of the mini-farm and cuddle a few donkeys or mules of their own size.

The Maison du Mullet’s rural heritage is typical of a traditional mountain farm of the time. The ground floor of the former dwelling features a bread oven and its paved workroom, grain stores and vaulted cellars. The bread oven can be used for events and tastings, such as baking bread or potatoes harvested from the farm’s vegetable garden with the help of mules. The threshold of this house, topped by a beehive, opens onto a courtyard entirely paved with a colorful calade.

Your daily admission includes: self-guided tour, access to all facilities, and at 3 p.m. a guided tour of the exhibits followed by a presentation of the animals.
