Touristic roads

Discover the Alpes de Haute-Provence along these touristic roads:

from the most emblematic Route Napoléon that the emperor took on his return from the island of Elba via Castellane, Barrême, Digne-les-Bains, Malijai and Sisteron,

to the most sweet-smelling Routes de la lavande which enable the visitor to discover the properties of lavender, a magical plant which is still a symbol of the south and Provence and which gives an essential oil with its own AOC.

Don’t forget to take the Train des Pignes on the Chemins de fer de Provence, an original way of covering the 151 km which separate Nice from Digne-les-Bains.

And lastly, thanks to the Touring Club de France, the « Route des Grandes Alpes » has linked Lake Léman to the Mediterranean sea through Barcelonnette and along the edge of the Mercantour Park since 1920.

Today new technologies offer an interactive GPS tour in the Pays Dignois of the natural and cultural heritage on five itineraries with geo guides.

In the Vallées du Sasse the rocks talk on the Sentier des Contes and you can discover twenty villages nestling in a bend in the Durance between the Serre-Ponçon Dam and the citadel of Sisteron in a fun way.

And last but not least, the route des Cadrans Solaires which reveals the wealth of the heritage of the seventeen villages of the Verdon through these sun-dials which are « witnesses of time’s pace ».
